Garmin eTrex 10 Worldwide Handheld GPS Navigator Review

For the longest time I wondered why they sold GPS devices still.  After all we have our phones and we can even download the trails.   However,  I went hiking out to Blood Mountain in north Georgia mountains and lost my signal and came to a fork and had to guess which way the summit was.   I decided to try GPS tools a go and test them out. One of those pieces of tech that I recently discovered is the Garmin eTrex 10 Worldwide Handheld GPS Navigator. After doing some research into what features it offered, as well as comparing prices between different brands, I decided to go with this one by Garmin. The sleek design paired with a range of useful functions makes this device perfect for hikers like me who want to get out in nature without having to worry about getting lost along the way!  I’m making it a must have if you’re doing any Canadian hiking as a US citizen!

About the Garmin eTrex 10

If you’re planning a rugged outdoor adventure, then the Garmin eTrex 10 is the perfect navigator! Its tough construction means it can cope with practically any terrain and conditions whether its rainy or snowy, hot or cold. The protective cover also helps protect its keypad from dirt and water ingress. With this handy device in your pocket, you’ll have an easy way to navigate on land no matter how isolated you become during your expeditions!   It’s definitely going to outlast even the best hiking shoes!

Although it is rugged, the screen is a bit hard to read if you have the sun directly overhead.

Preloaded Worldwide Basemap

When you’re lost, a GPS can come to the rescue. This Garmin eTrex 10 model preloads a worldwide basemap straight out the box so you wont have to step into unfamiliar territory without getting your bearings. Even if it’s literally unknown terra incognita for real – no problem! The preloaded basemap covers everything from major roads and urban centers, down to small backcountry trails or remote islands in far away seas keeping you safe and sound wherever in this big wide world life takes you.

Waterproof to IPX7 Standards

The great thing about this Garmin eTrex 10 is that its waterproof to IPX7 standards, so you dont have to worry if you get caught in the rain or accidentally drop it into a lake. It will definitely be alright – hooray for science! Not only does that save time and money spent on expensive drying out processes but also helps ensure your valuable navigational data remains safe and sound when exposed some nasty weather conditions.

While it withstood me holding it under water (unintentionally in my pocket), I don’t recommend testing these water “proof” devices like that unless you need a new one.

Support for Paperless Geocaching and Garmin Spine Mounting Accessories

One of the coolest features of this GPS device is the addition of geocaching!  I had hiker friends tell me about this activity and I could never decide on the right app, but this device let’s me enjoy the activity if I’m already hiking.   Definitely a cool plus for a newbie geocacher.

This handheld GPS navigator is great for paperless geocaching and all kinds of outdoor activities. This device supports various mounting accessories that make it super easy to attach it to your spine or a belt loop so you can keep track of where you are during any hike, climb, or jog through the woods. The Garmin Spine Mounting Accessory also makes using this handy gadget while on-the-go effortless – perfect conditions for those times when you need some expert guidance!

Estimated Time and Distance Between Points

With the Garmin eTrex 10, navigating from one point to another is easy! You can easily plan your trip and get an estimated time & distance using its GPS Navigator feature. This outdoor navigator also offers other useful features like hunting or geocaching mode for high sensitivity receiver, 24 MB of internal memory that expands with a microSD card , electronic compass & barometric altimeter and backlight options for nighttime navigation so youll have plenty of help when planning your next adventure!

Garmin eTrex 10 Review and Score

Our Score: 85/100

I recently got the Garmin eTrex 10 Worldwide Handheld GPS Navigator and it’s been extremely useful. It allows you to have accurate navigation around town or when navigating on trails back roads, mountains, lakes and even oceans. One of the great features of this product is how lightweight yet durable it is which makes carrying your Garmin easy while also feeling safe. I find myself constantly referring both my distances traveled as well as spending hours going through all the data points captured in each trip I take with my handheld device! After doing extensive research online and studying customer reviews at various stores, I give this product an 85 out of 100 score rating due to its overall excellent value for money, difficultly level (easy enough even first-timers can use) coverage area (worldwide!), design quality & battery life plus additional bonus features like night vision mode accessible via Satellite base map images.. Overall customers had quite a positive reaction towards their purchase decision giving out mostly glowing endorsements coupled with nods primarily concerning navigational accuracy without getting tangled into miles-long highways.

While I was extremely impressed with my first GPS tool ever, I have to admit the old school display and graphics aren’t great in low light or extreme brightness.   For that reason, I have to knock off a few points.

Conclusion

I have found the Garmin eTrex 10 to be a very reliable and accurate Handheld GPS Navigator. With its affordable price, features such as long battery life, multiple map capabilities and waypoint/route navigation make it well worth the investment for someone who needs an efficient handheld navigator.
