Avantree Cyclone Portable Bluetooth 5.0 Bike Speaker Review

I’ve been using Bluetooth speakers for years, and this is hands down the best purchase yet! Sound quality is superior to other speakers I have used, and the mounting system puts them over the top for me. In the past, I have always had them in my camelbak which was often too far away on descents where the wind would block out the noise. Having it on the bike not only allows it to be closer cutting out the white noise of the wind but also lets me play it lower being less annoying to other riders on the trail.

I ride different bikes on hard surface and soft surface trails, so my bike bounces around. I had speakers on my handlebars that shorted out from the abuse. I tried another speaker in this price range, but it wasn’t loud enough and connected to my handlebars. I bought the Avantree knowing that I would have to dedicate a bottle cage to this speaker instead of hanging it from my handlebars. That’s OK; it appears that placing the speaker in the cage is better for the wiring.   The problem is that the Avantree speaker is smaller than a typical bike bottle. That means it will rattle in a bike bottle cage or fall out. I fixed this by inserting the speaker in a tall can cozie. This muffles the sound slightly, but I can always cut holes in the cozie.

Having the control buttons on top is great, but they are hard to see.

After about 2.8 hours at close to full volume, the music sporadically cuts out.  As I continue to use it, the music cuts out more often, several times during song depending on volume. Once the speaker needs to be charged, a friendly voice says “battery low. please, charge.”

The problems I have with it are in its bluetooth functionality. The range is abysmal. I get better range out of all of my other Avantree products – this one tends to cut out at about 10 feet. It handles obstructions very poorly – I can have this clipped on a belt loop on one hip and had my phone in a pocket on the other side and it will start cutting out. If they’re on opposite sides of the room, walking between the Cyclone and my phone can cause it to cut out. A product meant for outdoor/sport use really needs to handle this better, especially when all of the other products in the brand, and competing products from other brands all seem to do OK.

It also doesn’t handle use with multiple devices well. I haven’t tried it with the Jogger Plus or Clipper, but the Audition Pro will allow two concurrent Bluetooth connections and handles them reasonably well – and that’s a pair of headphones for which the use case of concurrent connections is (as far as I can tell) very limited. The Cyclone is a sport/outdoor device, and it seems a lot more likely that there are uses for multiple devices connecting to it, but it won’t connect to more than one device at a time and doesn’t handle it well.

This isn’t a JBL flip 4 or 5, but it’s also not as heavy or as big. There lies its strength, portability without sacrificing sound quality. Tribit did an exceptional job, similar to what Cambridge Soundworks did with their speakers back in its day.

I first came across Tribit when I purchased the original StormBox speaker, which produces a well balanced sound with punchy bass. So when I received an email from Tribit announcing the upcoming release of it’s little brother StormBox Micro, I took the initiative to reserve one on Amazon before it was released as a replacement for my JBL Clip 3. Based on my experience with its big bro, I was hoping the Micro would provide a more balanced sound spectrum, and unlike the Clip 3, at least some inkling of bass. While that’s usually a tough task for a small speaker, the Micro’s nine-watt driver coupled with a passive radiator allow this little guy to dish out some impressive, size-defying sound–my JBL could only hang its head in disbelief. From the highs to the lows, the audio is vibrant, clear, and well-balanced even at high volumes. Better yet, the bass spectrum produces a satisfying thump well beyond its size. Though not long after placing my order, Tribit issued a coupon for 20-percent off the purchase of a StormBox Micro. I always want to save a few bucks when I can, so I hesitantly decided to just buy one more at the lower price and then return the undiscounted speaker when I received it. However, my curiosity intervened, and I couldn’t help but see what these tiny guys could do as a team in tandem. While it was easy to pair the two speakers, is was hard to fathom how amazing they sounded in sync–let’s just say that I won’t be returning either one. So to make a long review even longer, the StormBox Micro is a solid choice for anyone who wants a portable, mountable, great-sounding speaker that’s far more affordable than the competition, and twice as nice in stereo.

You would sit blindfolded thinking you have a 5 inch subwoofer in front of you in a room. It’s just a tiny sub built into this thing that sounds amazing but I had to return it for 2 big problems.

TREBLAB FX100 Waterproof Rugged Bluetooth Speaker Reviews

The high-end treble is crisp and bright, the low-end bass has a really tight thump that you can actually “feel”, along with a well-defined midrange. Battery life is excellent, although it does take several hours to recharge fully. Once synced with my phone I can actually receive calls through the unit itself as it has its own microphone as well (was not expecting that but its a nice feature).

I have taken it to the beach multiple times, had sand thrown on it, even left it out in the rain and it has never missed a beat. I’ve used it for several hours for multiple days at the beach and only used 1/4 of the battery. It also connects easily via bluetooth. With the d-ring attachment, I’ve attached it to my mountain bike to jam while riding.  My only request would be for this model to be offered in other color combos besides red and black.

Overall I like the speaker but compared to my last one that I could literally throw in the lake and let float next to me and it would project music to both sides of the lake, this speaker is a bit disappointing. It’s normal setting is kind of quiet and the “outdoor” amplified setting is only kind of better. Honestly, the whole “outdoor” setting is kind of pointless when you could just turn down the volume to where you want it and still have better sound.

I would NOT call this Bluetooth speaker for bike  “waterproof.” Water resistant? Definitely. The cover of the plug ports on one side is a simple rubber stopper that kind of just pops in a little, but I’m positive if I threw it in the lake it wouldn’t keep the water out.

This speaker is amazing!! Really high-quality sound, very impressive bass and high and lows, great volume aswell as being extremely durable and waterproof.  Another problem was slight glitching and a bit of lag when I was walking listening to music. Not sure if this has got something to do with the speaker or the 4g to Bluetooth connectivity as when I got home to play it with WiFi there were no problems at all. All in all, this speaker is a must buy for someone looking for a good priced speaker as the sound quality and the bass is extremely impressive aswell as the 35 hour battery life!

The speaker is well built, has bass, the battery seems to last for quite a long time, I’ve purchased a week ago and only have charged once. The sound quality is ok, can’t really say much about it since it’s a single speaker in a tiny enclosure, I’d say there’s not much mid’s, but not sure what they could do about it given the size.

These are very good quality speakers, the first thing I did when I got mine was throw it in the pool to see if it was really waterproof like it says. So if you’re thinking of taking one of these to go casually canoeing or kayaking, I would definitely recommend it.

The sound quality itself is – in my opinion – about what you’d expect from JBL. Very pristine and clear, no lags or sudden disconnections from Bluetooth like some speakers have. The volume honestly doesn’t get all that high, even with your phone and the speakers’ volume at full max. However, it’s plenty loud enough for normal folk to enjoy while you’re swimming, hiking, boating, working, or whatever. Though when you take into consideration its small size, I am honestly impressed with how loud it gets.

Now the clip. Let’s face it, the thing that probably attracts us most about this speaker is the fact it has a built-in clip for you to take it wherever you want; portable music! And it honestly accomplishes that feat really really well. A lot of cheaper clips won’t stay straight when you try to hook them onto things, and you have to physically move it back into place to fully ‘hook’. Not this thing. I’ve hooked it onto doorknobs, backpacks, the belt loops of my jeans…I’ve never had to readjust. Just clip and go. And for that reason alone I feel this thing is a keeper.

The battery life is supposed to be around 10 hours, and I honestly haven’t used it a WHOLE lot so far but it feels like it lasts longer to me. That may be just because I’ve been using it for a few hours on and off and not for the 10 hours straight, but the battery still lasts a good while. I got about 8-9 hours right out of the box alone, with no charging.

The build quality is superb and it is surprisingly heavy for its size. There are no loose or wobbly bits and the construction is solid. The battery life is really good for what i use it for. I normally shower between 15 to 30 minutes and I only have to charge the battery once a week and a half.

I bought this portable speaker to play music while riding my bicycle. It performed well for about a week – good sound reproduction and healthy battery. BUT, after hitting a few bumps, the front cover fell off. (see photos) It will not go back on, so the speaker is no longer water proof. Also, it is vulnerable to dirt and street grease. If I can’t get the front fixed back on, I fear this was wasted money. Alas, the following week the arm broke off and I can’t use the clip to hold it on my bike.

I bought this speaker to use when cycling. When it arrived I was amazed at the sound quality for a speaker OF THIS SIZE. I have several small bluetooth speakers of similar size and this unit has better sound quality by far. If you hold the speaker in your hand you can feel the thump of the bass. Great volume too. I have to keep it turned down when cycling so as to annoy other cyclists on the trail. The feature that has surprised me, though, is how well it works as a speaker phone. I work from home periodically and I am on the phone quite a bit. Other bluetooth speakers I’ve owned have horrible as a speaker phone, including one that marketed specifically as a speaker phone. For the price I paid, I can’t recommend this product strongly enough. I haven’t had any quality issues either. Seems like a robust design to me.

This little Bluetooth speaker has amazing sound quality! Now I can listen to music when I’m biking or working out. I can also just use it as a portable speaker. We’ll probably take this with us when we go camping. I’ve used it for a couple hours and haven’t had to charge it yet so the battery life lasts quite awhile. It says it’s waterproof but haven’t tested it in water yet. May take this to the beach with us and see how it lasts. So far digging this portable speaker!

Ordered this product to keep me entertained on my long bike rides. The reviews stated that the sound was great, including very depp and rich bass tones. I was skeptical, but purchased anyway – the price could not be beat. Upon receiving it, I tested it out and agree that for the small size, the sound is amazing and well worth every penny if you are in the market for a small speaker to use on your bike. The speaker mount is solid, easy to mount on your handlebars, and keeps a tight grip on the speaker. Even over bumpy, off road use. I primarily use it on my mountain bike. The speaker does come out of the mount and is highly portable. The buttons are easy to use and give you full access to volume and track changes. It is easy to adjust your music while riding, the buttons have a nice tactile feel that makes them easy to press while riding. Battery life is great too, lasts all week before requiring a recharge. Pairing is simple, and once paired my device links up everytime right away. Over all highly recommended for anyone looking for a speaker that is small in size, but big in sound quality.

After receiving the speaker and using it for a couple of sessions out on my bike I can only agree with them. The sound is great, it’s plenty loud enough and the hands-free calling works very well, even at 20 mile/hour in wind.

It is quite large, so be prepared to rejig existing items on your bars if like me you have a light and bell already attached, so a redesiged slightly smaller version in the future would be great, but I still recommend this product, and look forward to using it on my 1000 mile cycle from Lands End to John o’Groats which was primarily why I purchased it, but will use it on each cycle now too

I’ve had this speaker for a couple of months now and I’m really happy with the purchase especially for the price. I’ve used it whilst cycling daily as well as on trips away as a small portable speaker which can also be attached to a backpack. The bike holder fits nicely, the sound quality is good and battery life sufficient.

I like the smaller profile and quality of the design, but here’s my two gripes:

• the mounting bracket is only meant to be mounted on the handlebar, with the speaker turned 90°, which is really clumsy, awkwardly weighted, and doesn’t look good or help aerodynamically at all.
• the speaker cones face only one direction, and the metal hook-loop are very badly placed opposite of one another, compromising the secure fit of the speaker in the cage, or the direction the audio comes from. There’s a little metal loop on the speaker meant to hook a carabiner onto, but this little metal loop prevents the speaker from seating in the cage flat and secure. It has to be turned so the hook is facing sideways or upwards. The HUGE PROBLEM with this is that the speakers inside the Clearon shell are orientated the opposite direction as the metal hook loop, so the sound either gets sent sideways or directly downwards, making it very hard to actually hear the music.

This is a great little speaker with a BIG sound! I was surprised at how loud it gets without distorting. It even has a decent low end. I didn’t use it for a phone call, but unless there is a lot of background noise, it should be plenty loud enough for a conversation.

PROS:

• I was able to connect it via Bluetooth to my MP3 player without issue.
• It also can play FM radio.
• The remote works well.
• The construction is very sturdy, with quality parts – it includes all cables, and even an allen wrench for installing,

CONS:

• The bell (only operable through the remote) is way too loud, and its volume can’t be changed.
• To sustain water resistance, all of the ports are behind a rubber flap on the back of the unit. That’s a good thing, but one of these ports is the jack for the remote, and when it’s plugged in, the flap stays folded open, exposing all the other ports. It also looks sloppy. It would be better if it plugged in on the underside, with a rubber plug for moisture control if it’s not being used.
•  The speakers should have been placed facing a different side than where they are now. If you want the speaker to be facing upward, the carabiner loop will be on the bottom, keeping the unit from sitting snugly in the mounting cradle. It still fits, just awkwardly. The only other option is to position it with the speakers facing to the side or downward, which affects sound quality. Also, if you want to leave the carabiner in the loop while the unit is mounted, it won’t fit in the cradle with the speakers facing upward.
• When the unit is in the cradle with the speakers facing up, the button panel will be sideways.
• Lastly, there is a metal strip that runs the length of the unit that isn’t shown in the pictures in the ad (see my pictures below). Again, this conflicts with the speaker position when it’s in the cradle: if it’s positioned with the speakers facing up, the strip will be visible on the side. This doesn’t affect functionality, just aesthetics.
• The aux cable plugs into the micro USB so you cannot charge and listen to OCH at the same time.
• The jack that looks like a headphone jack is actually for the remote control.
• The waterproof flap covers all the ports and the microphone.

The radio mode switches quickly and gets decent reception but there’s no way to know what station you’re on unless they mention it while you’re listening.

This speaker is pretty loud for its size.  First and foremost, it’s very sturdy.  This little speaker definitely packs a punch! The battery life is awesome! If you play the music at 1/2 or 3/4 volume and turn if off when you’re not using it, the speaker lasts for days! I’ve left it in my truck for 3 weeks and it still powered right up and played music for a good 5 hours or more before it finally died. Just knowing the fact that I can attach it to my belt loop and listen to music all day long and then some makes me a happy camper. I’ve dropped it from a 3 story building onto some plywood and scrap wood to test the shock effect and only a small scratch or 2 was present on the face of the speaker but it works as great as the day I’ve bought it!

For $15 some odd dollars, you can have an awesome speaker for throwing a house party, for having music in the garage, at work, when you’re out walking the kids or whatever else tickles your fancy.

A few additions would make this good speaker great.

1. the rubber band isn’t strong enough to hold it in place, at least on my bike. Luckily I can rotate it down and let the back rest on the brake line, and it wobbles, but works.
2. It doesn’t remember my volume setting, so every time i turn it on, I have to click the volume up button 5 times to max it out. I can’t imagine riding and not wanting it on Max volume. I still can’t hear it around traffic, but that was expected.
3. The on/off switch is small and hard to get to, especially with gloves on. Instead of a dedicated on/off switch, I’d prefer a button.
4.  There should be an auto/off function if you forget to turn it off.

Cool Speaker. Like the fact that you don’t have to depend solely on bluetooth to listen to music. But music from phone is readily available also through bluetooth. I found if you drag and drop music folders to the SD card instead of individual songs you can jump through folders to get to the songs you want to listen to, as opposed to single songs which you would have to scroll through each song to find the one you want. Very cool. Have used it to talk on the phone. Seems to work pretty well. Just don’t stand it up on end to talk because the mic is on the bottom. It was also a great price. My only con, which is not really a big deal, is the buttons are hard to see in dim light because they are the same color as the body. I guess because I got the black one. Maybe the other colors would be easier to see.

The auto switch from line-in to bluetooth can be annoying. If you hit a bump while cycling and the cable jiggles a bit it will automatically switch to Bluetooth and disconnect the line-in. Very annoying.

Works great out of box, would like to know how it chooses songs to play from SD or does it just play everything it finds, or does it matter is albums are ordered by folders and sub folders? For the money it can’t be beat. The cable I purchased to go from iPhone to this speaker cost more than the speaker. I did not want to use Bluetooth as it consumes lots of battery. For those who could not get the microSD working, try using 32Gb, many electronics cannot use larger size. It works perfect for me

It’s quite small and light but puts out quite good sound. It’s not earth shattering stuff, but at it’s loudest level it’s just fine to hear the music/speech when you’re cycling along at a normal speed. There is no waterproof protection on the connections at the back, so I seriously doubt the waterproof claim. However, in light rain or water splashes, it should be fine. It would be nice too if it automatically switched off if the bluetooth was disconnected for a long time so it doesn’t just drain the battery. The mount is good if not amazingly secure, but enough that you don’t have to worry about it falling off (it just bobbles around). The buttons are a bit tricky to use when riding (especially with gloves) and you can easily find yourself accidentally turning the bluetooth or skipping tracks.
